The warmth of our very own breath

We search often for the answers to life that seem to be missing. We search in all sorts of places and fuel lucrative businesses in the process - of books and novels, self-help workshops and full-help workshops, courses and gurus. You name it and it’s there for the taking.


But all along the answers we seek are so much closer to home than we let ourselves realise. The answers to all that we seek are in the wisdom of our own body.


We can access this wisdom, heavenly as it is, through the warmth of our very own breath.


But breathing our own breath is not the norm. We tend to breathe everybody else’s breath – along with the hustle and the bustle and the collective anxiety of everyone around us. On a practical level for many of us our breath is fast and short, rather than it coming gently from the warmth and tenderness of the deeper part of our lungs.


We breathe to survive whereas what is always available to us, is to breathe to connect.

We can shift this by simply stopping just for a moment, and claiming our breath back as our own.


In that stop, bring in the quality of gentleness to your in-breath and your out-breath. Let yourself feel the gentleness that is naturally within you as you breathe in and out through the tip of your nose.


That gentle quality of breath brings us back to ourselves. It is the bridge back to our inner-most connection which is the gateway to our soul.


The soul is there for us to access first through the quality of gentleness. As you gently breathe in and out, let yourself be witness to you, to your body, as it begins to let go and rest. And as your body naturally reconfigures itself to this harmonious quality it knows so well, let this same quality begin to imprint the way you move. No trying is needed, simply allow your body to guide you.

It is our own breath that offers us the gateway back to who we truly are. How empowering is that to remember… All we need is within our body, within the majesty of its design, which is far more than mere flesh and blood. Not through any self-help book or course or so-called magic touch of another person.


So as you breathe gently and out, let yourself melt into the real you, claiming back your breath as your own and returning to the essence of who you truly are.
